What makes Speak App different from other language learning apps?

Speak App is a mixture of a classic vocabulary trainer and audio player. Instead of displaying the vocabulary or phrases in the form of flashcards or similar, they are spoken by the app. First in the source language, which can be the language to be learnt or the native language, and after a short pause in which you can think about the solution, the translation is spoken. Then the next vocabulary or phrase is spoken. This continues until the end of the lesson. The vocabulary can be played in the given order or randomly. This way of learning does not require you to stare at a screen all the time. So you can learn anywhere, whether you are driving or working out at the gym.

With Speak App teachers have 2 options for making the vocabulary and phrases from their courses available to their students.

Simply by creating lists of vocabulary and phrases in Speak App and exporting them. Alternatively, they can create the lists in Excel and export them as a CSV file. Their students can then simply import the files into the Speak app.
Using Speak App Cloud. With Speak App Cloud, teachers can easily enter their course content using the Speak App Cloud web front-end and then publish it only to their students. How Speak App works?

Speak App uses modern text to speech technology to speak lists of vocabulary and phrases. You can either create these lists yourself, import them or simply use the Speak App courses provided. The operation is similar to that of an audio player. The only difference is that the vocabulary or phrases are played instead of the music.

Speaks a phrase

Tap on any entry of a lesson to start. Speak App speaks the phrase in the first language.

Makes a pause

Speak App pauses to let you think about the translation or speak it yourself.

Speaks the translation

After the pause, the translation will be spoken. This will allow you to see if you have translated it correctly.

Speak App requires at least iOS 13 or Android 10. Cheap and slow Android smartphones may experience problems or long delays in speech output. We therefore recommend an up-to-date and reasonably fast device for Speak App to run smoothly.

No, Speak App does not require an account. All data is stored on the device. The Speak App courses are offered via In App Purchase for which you need your Apple or Google account to make the purchase.

Yes, you can easily create your own courses within the app. A course consists of several lessons and a lesson consists of several phrases or vocabulary. You can export the created courses as a CSV file (compatible with Excel and Numbers) and import them again. This means you can also make your courses available to your friends.

With Mic2Speak you can create lessons simply by speaking. Simply speak phrases and words that you want to learn in another language into the microphone of your device. Speak App recognises what you say, translates it and then speaks the translation to you. You can then easily import the lessons created in this way into your existing courses or create a new course from them.
